Pumamarca hike to Machu Picchu goes on a picturesque trail, rarely visited by travelers. The Pumamarca hike is a great day hike for people seeking for short treks in the magical Sacred Valley. Pumamarca is a beautiful Inca ruin located high above Ollantaytambo town,  perched on the hilltop. Pumamarca hike, links the Inca ruins of Pumamarca with some Inca farming terraces along the valley of Patacancha.

With Pumamarca hike travelers will experience little Quechua villages, great Inca aqueducts with breathtaking views of the mountains around. This short Pumamarca hike ends at Ollantaytambo, the only town with original Inca foundation.

To the end of Pumamarca trek we will have train ride from Ollantaytambo station and connect to Machu Picchu, we will spend one night at the hotel in Aguas Calientes. The best time to do the Pumamarca trek is from April to December

Detailed itinerary for Pumamarca 

First day: Cusco – Ollanta – Pumamarca – Aguas Calientes

plato tipico CuscoThe Pumamarca trek starts with the pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at 6:00am. The drive to Ollantaytambo is almost 2 hours (optional to buy breakfast here). after the stop we will continue for another 20 minutes by car. we will travel along the Patacancha Valley to the trail-head of Pumamarca. A 30 minutes uphill hike will allow us to arrive to the beautiful ruins of Pumamarca. there will be plenty of time to explore and enjoy this wonderful Inca site.

After the guided tour at the ruins of Pumamarca. A beautiful Inca Trail will lead us down to Ollantaytambo town. After lunch we will have chance will time to explore the town. Ollantaytambo has water channels and beautiful stone doorways. At the scheduled time we walk to the train station and then continue to Aguas Calientes town.

Hotel in Aguas Calientes:

Second day: Machu Picchu – Cusco


Pumamarca-hike-machu-picchu. After breakfast at the hotel the guide will lead you to the bus station. You will have 30 minutes of bus drive to Machu Picchu. Once you are to this magical place, there will be a guided tour of the citadel. The visit includes to the Sun temple, the Sun dial (Intihuatana), the royal palace,  Temple of the three windows, the main temple, Sacred rock.

In the afternoon you will take the bus to return to Aguas Calientes. After  lunch we will catch the train back to Ollantaytambo station. The journey by train is approximately 1:40 Hours. Upon your arrival to the train station at Ollantaytambo you will a transfer back to the hotel in Cusco.
