Cusco has beautiful colonial buildings and astonishing Inca architecture, in the down-town of the city, many streets are lined with perfect Inca stonework, which serves as foundation for most Spanish constructions which took place in the XVI and XVII centuries. In the afternoon, enjoy a walking tour in the downtown of the city. You can observe the living example of the mixture of Andean and Spanish cultures. We will walk around the Main Square to see the Catholic Churches and some of the beautiful Inca streets, the local market called San Pedro and the Inca Museum, which allows us to understand the meaning of this wonderful civilization in South America(optional to enter in Qoricancha and cathedral).
In the morning, we will pick you up from the hotel in a private car. It takes approximately 20 minutes to drive to Tambomachay (the water ritual place). We will visit this wonderful site and continue on to Puca Pucara, Q’enqo and Sacsayhuaman, the biggest Incan site around Cusco. We arrive back in the city and visit the cathedral, the most important Catholic Church in South America.
We will pick you up from the hotel and transport you in a private vehicle to Taucca, a community located at 3700 masl. On route, we will pass Piuray Lake which supplies drinkable water to Cusco city. We will pass a few more small communities, Umasbamba and Cuper Bajo before the start of our tour.
It is possible to see locals farming their lands with potatoes and bean crops as their ancestors did. Once we start hiking, we will follow a small valley upward for approximately 3 hours to reach the highest point. We will start descending for 2 hours to Huchuy Qosqo, recently restored by archaeologists, located at 3,450 mals. From this point, if the weather is clear, you can see many beautiful mountains: Chicon, Pitusiray,Sawasiray, Waccaywilca and Veronica.
The ancient sacred mountains are called “Apus” and referred to as the “angels in the mountains” They have been respected and revered by the local Incan- Quechuan descendants for centuries. This Inca site is amazing. When we arrive, we will have time to rest, relax and recover with a delicious box lunch.
We will start our descent to the town of Lamay and drive for 1 hour to the quaint town of Ollantaytambo. We will enjoy dinner together and board the train as we travel for 2 hours toward Aguas Calientes.( A town located in the Machu Picchu village). Our guide will lead you to the hotel located only few minutes from train station.
In the morning after breakfast, we will board the bus which will take us to the biggest energetic center of the Incas “Machu Picchu”. A professional tour guide will educate us about the history of this mysterious and magical place (Sun Temple, Royal Palace, Main Temple, Three Windows Temple,Sun Dial). It will be an unforgettable experience and highlight of your trip. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore on your own. At the scheduled time, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and then return to Cusco.
