This stunning Humantay Lake full day trek is a great option for those looking for short hikes and it takes you to Cusco’s most magical place where you will be surrounded by the most holly mountains as Salkantay and Humantay while enjoying the great mountain scenery around this incredible turquoise Lake.
Humantay Lake is located at the bottom of Humantay peak, that is why it allows you to walk the beginning part of the famous Salkantay trek. This amazing day hike is recommended for the dry season (May-October)
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5am and drive 2.5 hours to the town of Mollepata, and then we follow a dirt road for 1 hour to arrive to Soraypampa. Here we will enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared by our expert chef before we start the trek to Soraypampa.
We travel along a beautiful path which called as “Camino a Humantay,” mainly uphill. After passing the tiny village, where Salkantay trekkers camp, we continue hiking for another hour and a half, ascending 1,250 feet in 3 km up a steep path. After to walk across the last moraine, we will see down a beautiful turquoise color lake below, which is the water melting from the impressive Humantay snowcapped.
Along the way to Humantay lake there will be great views of Salkantay Peak, one of Cusco’s most tallest mountains, towering 20,600 feet very respected by locals. The equally stunning Humantay Mountain, rising 19,400 feet, is also visible most of the time. Spiritual people and other natives will often leave offerings when reaching the crystal-clear waters of Humantay Lake. Once we reach the lake-shore, we will have a relaxing time, enjoying our snacks, and walk around this magical place. When you feel ready to walk back down, we will descend to Soraypampa and have lunch while enjoying the breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks. We drive back to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel.
