The 2 day Huchuy Qosqo trek to Machu Picchu is a great short camping tour outside Cusco. It takes you to the amazing archaeological site of Huchuy Qosqo (small Cusco) in the Peruvian Andes. This trip to Machu Picchu enables travelers to experience the true country life style around Cusco; which we combine with the Inca history to make this tour very special and unique.

Huchuy Qosqo is a majestic ruins, located in the proximity of the Sacred Valley, close to Lamay. This trails around here were part of the Inca roads to connect Cusco with some other crucial places and in the present day people use it for short trekking trips close to Cusco. After visiting the fantastic ruins of Huchuy Qosqo, travelers will be able to continue to Ollantaytambo and connect by train with Machu Picchu town.

Huchuy Qosqo trip – Itinerary

Day 1.- Cusco – Tauca – Huchuy Qosqo

At  6 am  you will be picked up from your hotel, in our private transportation and drive to the interesting village of Tauca. We will start the Trekking uphill for 3 hours, as we reach the mountain top there will be breathtaking views of the tall peaks around, then we continue our trek downhill, passing some farming fields and pastures where animals graze. Around Huchuy Qosqo we will find the typical flora of the area, we then follow a beautiful Inca trail downward to the popular Inca site, at our arrival to the Inca Site; our guide will teach us all the history of this place.

After having our box lunch we will continue with our 2 day, walking down to Lamay (3 hours) from here we need to travel by car to Ollantaytambo. In the evening we will catch the train to Aguas Calientes town

Day 2.- Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Cusco.

In the morning after breakfast you will take a bus up to the ruins of the ancient inca site, as the most of the visitors we want also to arrive earliest possible to observe the beautiful sunrise in the biggest energetic center of the Incas and enjoy this magnificent place before the crowds arrive. You will be part of 2 hours guided tour of Machu Picchu.

The following hike options can be only taking in the morning turn:

  1. Huayna Picchu Mountain is the first option of additional hike; it rises approximately 320 meters higher than the ruins and normally takes 2 hours to hike it up and down. The last part of the mountain is quite steep, not recommended for people afraid of heights. To climb it you need to book in advance, the tickets are limited to 400 people per day. The 400 tickets are divided into two groups: 200 people are allowed to start at 7:00am and 200 at 10am.
  2. Machu Picchu Mountain called Montaña is the second option to hike, it takes longer time than the other mountain (3hours at least) but the views are better, because is taller than Huaynapicchu. To hike this mountain you need to book in advance, the tickets are limited by the Peruvian Government office.

After the guided tour, you will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes and then  return to Ollantaytambo by the expedition train (leaves between 2.30pm to 6pm) from the train station you will be transferred directly back to your hotel. End of service.
