For the most of the trekking routes in the Southern Peruvian Andes, the recommended trek packing list is very similar to other hikes (Classic Inca Trail, Salkantay trek, Ancascocha trek, Choquequirao trek, Ausangate trek or Rainbow Mountain trek). But in the particular case of Lares Trek to Machu Picchu, as you prepare for this spectacular hike we suggest you taking the following things:

  • Original passport is essential to check in to Machu Picchu, train company and the hotels
  • We recommend you bringing a small day-pack with essential things (for your personal items, we also provide you a duffle bag)
  • Warm sleeping bag  at least minus 10ºC (you can hire it in our office)
  • A good trekking boots with good ankle support is our suggestion, specially for wet season
  • Trekking poles: are very helpful for the uphill and downhill places on the hikes. But you can not use them at Machu Picchu
  • Warm winter clothes, layers for variable change of temperatures especially for the night time
  • Thermal underwear to wear it in the sleeping bag or in cold weather conditions
  • Gloves, scarf , woolly socks, woolen hat for cold nights
  • T-shirts and trekking pants that zip off to short pants for comfort
  • Flash light, head-lamp, extra batteries and Camera
  • Wear a Sun hat with a broad visor to keep the sun off your face
  • Sun block hf 40+, and Sun glasses
  • Personal medicines and Insect repellent
  • Rain Gear: a good rain jacket or rain ponchos specially for wet season
  • Toiletries, toilet paper, small towel
  • 2 liter water bottle to start the trek
  • Water purifying pills  are optional, since we provide boiled water
